The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) is one of the world’s leading training and education institutions in circus arts and are a member of the Arts8 group. The position is responsible for:
- Providing culturally appropriate support, advocacy, and mentoring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
- Building and maintaining respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, and organisations.
- Leading and coordinating cultural initiatives and events, including NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week.
- Supporting pathways to study, employment, and professional development for Indigenous students.

The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) is an internationally renowned centre of excellence, providing innovative education, training, performance, research, leadership and talent to the contemporary circus arts industry.
In order to continue to offer the best circus arts education programs and to further develop our courses, NICA would like to invite talented and experienced educators and trainers in circus arts to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to join our organisation.
NICA is seeking a range of specialist teachers and trainers who have a combination of education experience and vocational and industry knowledge in circus fitness, foundations, specialties and group acts, anatomy and physiology studies, business studies, circus history studies, dance and/or performance studies.
The following knowledge, skills and experience should be used as a guide before applying:
- A qualification in Circus Arts, Performing Arts or another related specialist field.
- A teaching qualification (minimum Certificate IV in TAE); a Higher Education Teaching qualification would be an advantage
- A minimum of 10 years employment and/or teaching experience in specialist areas
- A strong collegiate approach and a willingness to adhere to educational training approaches at NICA
- OH&S qualifications (or units within a qualification) and First Aid Certificate preferred.
- Experience with computer skills and technology
- The capacity to work individually and be able to run a group of up to 30 students in classes

Job Offer - Ongoing Casual Supervisor

The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) is currently looking for a Casual Supervisor to join our NICA Rec Team!
The NICA Rec Supervisor is a casual position with engagements over Monday to Thursday evenings (approximately 4 – 4.5 hours per engagement) and Saturdays (approximately 6 hours per engagement) during school term and Monday to Saturday (approximately 6 hours per engagement between 9am-4pm) during school holiday periods.
They play an integral role in ensuring the ongoing safety of our public circus programs and are key in the smooth operation of classes and training programs across weeknights, Saturdays, and holiday periods. Working closely with both the production department and NICA Rec team, the Supervisor is required to assist with the management of classes, space allocation, rigging and safety processes and, equipment use.
The Supervisor will also work closely with NICA’s circus training staff and public, so we are looking for a friendly, super organised, circus professional with a good eye for detail who likes working as part of a small team.

NICA Rec is recruiting now for circus trainers in 2024 and we would love to hear from you!
NICA is committed to providing the best learning experience to our students, whether they are 5 years old and just starting out in circus or our high-level teens and adults. To deliver our programs to the highest level we endeavour to employ trainers that are experienced, knowledgeable of their craft, and who love to teach people, big and small!.
We are on the lookout for interested alumni and experienced circus professionals for ongoing teaching work throughout 2024. Our non-accredited recreational classes run each term on Monday to Thursday evenings and on Saturdays. Additional work is available throughout holiday periods in the form of workshops, private tuitions, holiday programs, social circus, and outreach programs.
Some of the specialty skills we are looking for include flexibility/contortion, straps, pole, tumbling and acro, hand balancing and aerials (tissu, hoop, trapeze, flying trapeze).
